A real-time simulation study on the behaviour of alternative trend-cycle decomposition methods during the pandemic – 2024 edition

We are pleased to announce the release of Eurostat’s latest statistical working paper titled “A Real-Time Simulation Study on the Behaviour of Alternative Trend-Cycle Decomposition Methods During the Pandemic.” This paper conducts a comparative analysis of trend and cycle estimates derived from the Hodrick-Prescott method, the Christiano-Fitzgerald approximation, and the Harvey and Trimbur model for selected euro area indicators. The study spans the last three decades, including the COVID pandemic, and introduces an additive outlier correction to handle the most volatile observations during this period.

This project was implemented by GOPA Luxembourg experts, ensuring high-quality analysis and insight.

We invite you to read the full publication and explore the detailed findings.
